Inside a Ceramicist's Studio
Shelves of quiet earthenware, the smell of wet clay, and a maker's case for working slowly.
The studio sits at the end of a courtyard, its shelves lined with bowls in every stage of becoming — bone-dry, glazed, fired, waiting.
Here, the ceramicist works in series. A single form is repeated until the hand stops thinking about it, and the object can finally become itself.
There is a lesson in the pace. Nothing is rushed; nothing is wasted. The cracked pieces are kept on a high shelf, a record of what the material refused to do.
By the time the afternoon light moves across the wall, a dozen new pieces sit drying, indistinguishable to the visitor, entirely distinct to the maker.
