Where to Find Nordic Light
On the particular quality of Scandinavian daylight, and the rooms built to hold it.
Nordic light is famously generous and famously brief. For half the year it pours in low and golden; for the other half it must be coaxed, saved, and shared.
Scandinavian interiors are, in a sense, instruments for the light. Sheer curtains diffuse it, pale walls multiply it, and a single well-placed chair becomes a place to sit inside it.
To find the best of it, go early. The first hour after sunrise turns ordinary rooms into something close to sacred — and then, just as quickly, it moves on.
